A heart-shaped gravestone for New Romantic pioneer Steve Strange has been unveiled in Porthcawl

A heart-shaped headstone has been unveiled at the grave of pop star Steve Strange.

The memorial, at Jubilee Gardens Cemetery in Porthcawl has been paid for by the Steve Strange Collective - the organisation launched to promote and celebrate the legacy of the Visage frontman and the causes with which he was involved.

The foundation was established by Steve’s mother Gill Harrington, sister Tanya Harrington and his PA Amanda Lloyd, following the New Romantic pioneer’s death while on holiday in Egypt in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt in February this year.

'Fashionista and friend to all'

Words engraved on the headstone in tribute to the larger-than-life fashion icon include lyrics from Visage’s biggest hit Fade To Grey, as well as the words “Pioneer of the New Romantic Movement. Frontman of Visage. King of the ‘80s club scene. Fashionista & Friend to all.”

A statement on the Steve Strange Collective Facebook page read: “We are pleased to share and announce to the world that our beloved Steve Strange has a beautiful fitting headstone in keeping with such a musical legend as he was.

Anyone wishing to pay their respects to him are welcome at Jubilee Gardens Cemetery, Pyle Road, Porthcawl, CF36 5TB. Open daily 8am ‘til 6pm.

“Thank you for all your continued support enabling us to finance such a beautiful headstone. The Harrington family.”
