Gary Numan has just completed a viral ad for a DieHard batter below is some information about the ad.
How do you follow the success of over 850,000 YouTube views for a viral video featuring a DieHard battery and web sensation Reggie Watts? You use a DieHard battery to power 80’s new wave music icon Gary Numan, his keyboards, lights and 24 cars.
Y&R Chicago and DieHard batteries partnered with Zoo Films’ director James Frost, (of OK GO and Radiohead music video fame) and LA technology collective Syyn Labs. Together they created a
keyboard made of cars, for Numan to perform, well, we’ll let you guess his choice of song.
The Pleasure Principle 2010
Tour North America29/6/2010
Gary Numan will tour North America this fall to celebrate the 30th anniversary reissue of his classic album The Pleasure Principle.
On The Pleasure Principle 2010 Tour, he will perform in its entirety the album that climbed into the Top 20 on the U.S. charts 30 years ago propelled by his unforgettable Top 10 single "Cars."
The shows will feature material spanning across Numan's career, including tracks from his forthcoming album Splinter which he's currently working on in the U.K.
Numan last toured America in 2006 in support of his Jagged album and was set to appear at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival this past April, but had to cancel due to the volcanic eruptions in Iceland blocking air traffic. For his 2010 fall tour starting in mid-October, fans will be able to catch him in 15 markets including Orlando, Atlanta, Washington D.C., Boston, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Denver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Emilie Autumn will join Numan as the support act in Philadelphia and New York City, with others to be announced for the other cities.
The Pleasure Principle made Gary Numan a huge international solo star upon its release in 1979. Given the soft rock and disco-dominated music scene in America at the end of the decade, the disc pioneered electronic pop music on a new, worldwide scale built around icy synthesizers without guitars or conventional song structures ("Cars" doesn't even have a chorus). The disc's impact was crystallized in the U.S. when Numan performed "Cars" and "Praying To The Aliens" an audience of 40 million people on Saturday Night Live. The music from The Pleasure Principle gave birth to new musical movements in the States over the next decade, including hip-hop, industrial and techno.
Bill over at Sanctum Sanctorum podcasts is about to undertake a massive task, the Gary Numan top 100 voted by all you numanoids.
All you have to do is send your favourite 15 tracks to the following email: numanvote@hotmail.co.uk the closing date for votes is JULY 1st 2010!!!
The details of when the podcasts will go out will be made available some time after the closing date.
Gary Numan Has A Facelift27/5/2010
The music legend Gary is facing the world with a new look after undergoing an incredible surgical procedure.
The technique which allows patients to resume a normal life within a couple of hours of undergoing a facelift has been perfected by our plastic surgeons at Castlefield Clinic in Manchester.
There surgeons work under 'Twilight Sedation’ which means that the patient does not have to stay overnight; there’s minimal bruising and quicker recovery times.
Gary, who underwent a face lift or S-Lift procedure, said: 'My entire experience at Castlefield Clinic was remarkable. On the day I walked into an extremely friendly and yet professional atmosphere from the moment I opened the clinic door.
'I went to sleep, or so it seemed, via one injection which I didn't even feel going in and, an hour or so later, woke up in the recovery room with a cup of tea waiting. No pain whatsoever, not even minor discomfort.
'Within 45 minutes of waking up, I was sitting in the local cinema eating a hot dog and watching a film. Over the next seven days or so the swelling, such as it was, virtually disappeared, the stitches were taken out, again with no pain whatsoever, and a few days later I was on BBC TV being interviewed live by Jools Holland and no-one could tell what I'd had done. '
Gary added: 'Now, a few months later, the scars are practically invisible. I was told beforehand that the change would be subtle, a clear improvement but without looking like I'd had something as dramatic as surgery and that's exactly the way it turned out.
'No general anaesthetic but still asleep as far as I was concerned, no hospital stay, no tubes, drips, shunts or drains and, most importantly for me, no pain.''
BackStagefull steam ahead19/4/2010
Some have asked about the book BackStage by Stephen Roper. Stephen informs me the book is full steam ahead at the moment and hopefully be available from mid-summer...
below is a little info of what you can expect from the book
Backstage: a unique insight into the most prolific years of the UK’s most successful and enigmatic electronic rock star, Gary Numan. This book documents the period from 1979 to 1981, which saw Numan at the peak of stardom. A time that many will remember for the white face, the eyeliner, the dry ice and pounding synthesiser sound of the early eighties, Numan emerged from the wreckage of punk with five number one records and sell-out live shows across the globe.
This is the inside story in the words of those that were directly involved in producing some of the most influential electronic pop music of the time. Over a period of two years, the author has interviewed most of the original band members, record company executives and the technical crew responsible for Numan’s spectacular live concerts. All the interviews were conducted in person and everyone has expressed themselves openly, often with a great deal of humour and a fondness for their time spent with Gary.
With contributions from Gary Numan himself Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, Simple Minds, John Foxx, Devo, Ultravox and Nash The Slash, (many of whom supported Numan on his world tours) the anecdotes, memories and unseen photographs contained in Backstage reveal many new facts and insights into the man and his music and many amusing tales of his meteoric rise to fame
With yet another flight ban extension in place this morning and no sign of any respite from the volcanic cloud, it is with regret that we are unable to get to the Coachella festival and we have had to take the decision to postpone our San Francisco and Los Angeles shows until later in the year.
We have tried and exhausted every conceivable method of transport and routing option to try to get to the US, to no avail.
Thanks for everyone's support and understanding of the situation. We'll update with news of the rescheduled shows as soon as we can on www.numan.co.uk
Gary Numan unlikely to appear at Coachella as volcanic ash deepens travel chaos18/4/2010
Gary Numan is highly unlikely to make it to Coachella for his appearance on Sunday but remains determined to make it if possible and just issued this update on Nuworld.
It is now 5PM here in the UK. A short while ago I received a message saying that both the San Francisco and Los Angeles shows had sold out which cheered me up no end. A few minutes after that I received another message saying that British Airways have cancelled our flights to the US tomorrow which brought everything straight back down again. We have called every transatlantic airline that operates from the UK and not only are they not flying, they are not currently accepting any new bookings, not until tuesday for many of them. So, even if they do allow planes to fly later on sunday or monday, and that's a very big if at the moment, we can't book seats on any of them. Even I have to admit that it's not looking good. As soon as we know more I'll update you all. I can't tell you how disappointed we all are.

Gary Numan's 1981 'Farewell' concerts at Wembley Arena, London marked the first phase of his career. Pioneering electronic punk Gary Numan will be presenting this Friday’s edition of The Remix alongside XFM’s electronic music guru and the show’s host Eddy Temple-Morris for what is to be a monumental show in UK radio history. Gary is bringing in a special collection of CDs that have been important to him personally or influential to him as an artist and will be discussing these alongside the tunes Eddy picks to create a soundclash style show.
The show is to be broadcast Friday the 9th of April from 10pm-1am and is in support of Gary’s upcoming live and DJ activities and the new album ‘Splinter’ which he is finishing that is due out in late summer or early autumn this year.
Numan is proud to announce that Gary Numan's Micromusic is being released on DVD for the first time. This document of his 1981 Wembley Arena London concerts features 25 tracks from the albums Tubeway Army , Replicas, The Pleasure Principle, Telekon and Dance, as well as stunning visuals created by one of the biggest stage sets ever built in the UK. The Micromusic DVD will be launched at the forthcoming Scala show in London on 13 April, and then through the Official Store. For a quick look at the DVD you can view the clip below or visit the new Numan Vimeo site.
MICROMUSIC DVD QUALITY
We've noticed a few comments where people seem to think that the new MicroMusic DVD has been obtained by making a copy from an original laser disc, or even a VHS cassette. We just wanted to correct that and make it clear to everyone that the Micromusic DVD comes from fully remastered video footage from a true analogue video master tape from the 1980's period which was eventually found after literally years of searching. This master tape was of the highest possible quality, given the state of video technology that existed in the early 80's of course. In addition, the soundtrack has been remastered and offers a greatly improved audio experience compared to the original release and the DVD also features an hour long exclusive interview with Gary Numan talking frankly about the Wembley period.
For those of you that use the NTSC system we are also manufacturing a number of NTSC copies.
Robin Finck Joins Gary for U.S. Shows8/4/2010
ROBIN FINCK JOINS THE BAND FOR U.S. SHOWS
Gary is very excited to show you this excerpt from the latest press release.
Robin Finck, guitarist with Nine Inch Nails and Guns N' Roses, will guest with Gary Numan for three American dates in April 2010. Finck is joining Numan's band for the forthcoming Coachella festival on 18 April, followed by The Fillmore San Francisco (20 April) and El Rey in Los Angeles (21 April). These latter San Francisco and El Rey shows will feature all ten songs from ''The Pleasure Principle'', the massively influential album that broke into the American charts three decades ago and includes the US Top 5 hit, 'Cars'. Finck and the British electronic pioneer first appeared on a stage together last year, when Numan guested with Nine Inch Nails on his own songs including 'Metal' and 'Down In The Park' in London and Los Angeles.
"It is my pleasure to now band together on his stage for these three shows. Each appearance should prove to be electric and I'm psyched" says Finck regarding the upcoming dates.
'I'm totally blown away that Robin is going to be joining us in America.' says Numan. 'I've watched him play many, many times and he's a truly unique and gifted performer. It's going to be fantastic.'

Gary Numan & Nine Inch Nails 4/10/2009
Gary Numan has revealed that he and Nine Inch Nails man Trent Reznor plan to collaborate either later this year or at some point in 2010.
Reznor has recently said that he plans to stop touring, but Numan, who was a special guest at NIN's recent shows, told
The
Quietus: "I know he wants to carry on doing music things. We went out a few days after [the LA gigs] with a few other people and the way he puts it is when the dust settles – I think he means his marriage – but I think he's going to be pretty busy for a while, so it'll either be later this year or early next."
The arrangement seems fairly casual at the moment, with Numan refusing to commit to creating a whole album's worth of material. He says that the plan is to work on "Probably just a few songs to start with and see how it goes on. It'll be cool."
Numan seemed to have enjoyed the whole experience, the proof is in the pudding just pop over to YouTube and you will see a Numan loving every moment.
