Bizarrely with Numan's continued success came many enemies in the media. This non-stop abuse led Gary to aim his next single I Die You Die at the press. The lyrics were powerful and straight to the point, and the single became another Top 10 hit No 8 in the UK charts. An alternate take was featured on just six white label copies; meanwhile in Holland there were many different coloured vinyl releases of the single. The cover shows Gary wearing a black leather jumpsuit with red horizontal and vertical lines and a red streak in his hair and lets not forget the hoover attachment.

DIE: YOU DIE LYRICS
I Die : You Die
(Single, 1980)
This is not love
This is not even worth a point of view
In Echo Park I
Pause for effect
And whisper 'Who are you?'
They crawl out of their holes for me
And I die : You die
Hear them laugh
And watch them turn on me
And I die : You die
See my scars
They call me such things
Tear me, tear me, tear me
But I have your names
Screaming 'You will suffer'
And, 'You're all too late'
Now I feel young
Does everything stop when the old tape fails?
They crawl out of their holes for me
And I die : You die
Hear them laugh
And watch them turn on me
And I die : You die
See my scars
They call me such things
Tear me, tear me, tear me
But I'm still frightened by the telephone...
Cars
(Single from 'The Pleasure Principle'
album, 1979.)
Here in my car
I feel safest of all
I can lock all my doors
I't's the only way to live
In cars
Here in my car
I can only receive
I can listen to you
It keeps me stable for days
In cars
Here in my car
Where the image breaks down
Will you visit me, please
If I open my door
In cars
Here in my car
I know I've started to think
About leaving tonight
Although nothing seems right
In cars
