This Numan 7Ē first appeared on eBay and 100% of the final winning bid went directly to the Starlight Children's Foundation charity. The Winning bid was £2,501.50 25-Jun-07
This was an official/authorised 7" black vinyl pressing of the famous Gary Numan songs Cars and Are 'Friends' Electric? Only 29 (twenty-nine) of these 7" black vinyl records have been pressed worldwide. This is probably one of the most desirable Numan-related pressings ever issued.
Each record is individually hand-numbered and signed on the labels to match the individually numbered sleeve. On the reverse of the sleeve is a 6-digit code which identifies this as an official pressing.
29 of these records were produced (one for each year since Gary Numan released his first single on the Beggars Banquet label under Tubeway Army as corporate gifts. Due to the nature of this pressing, this is probably the only time that one of these records will ever be available to the general public via eBay.
What Starlight Do
Living with illness or injury can cause enormous strain in the lives of children and their families. The everyday joys of childhood often take a backseat to the stress of treatment and isolation.
Since 1988 Starlight has delivered innovative 'Distractive Therapy Programmes' within hospital environments, with the endorsement and support of the healthcare profession. Their programmes are designed to be an integral part of the total health care of children.
Their hospital programmes include Starlight Express Rooms, Starlight Fun Centres and Starlight Express Vans. All of which aim to bring smiles to the faces of hospitalised children, using fun and entertainment as a positive distraction to pain and boredom. Out of hospital, Starlight kids and their families can relax and enjoy family outings provided by Starlight Escapes, share a once-in-a-lifetime experience through their Starlight Wishgranting programme.
With a little help from people like you, Starlight can make a difference in the life of a seriously ill child. http://www.starlight.org.au/
Now I hear you ask who is the proud owner of this 7Ē.
The winning bid was made by Ian & Nicky Henderson two hoteliers from Dunvegan, Isle of Skye. Ian explains why he bid so much. A few reasons, I personally have been a Numan fan since 1978, have a lot of Numan material. The charity the money is going to is a for a good cause. Just how many of us here would like this vinyl? Ill hazard a guess at us all. We live once on this planet why not get what you want but please donít forget everyone who is unfortunate enough not to live their lives the way they would like. If the money helps children to get a little more out of life, then surely thatís for the good. The vinyl takes pride of place in our hotel on The Isle of Skye.
We both run a small hotel in Dunvegan, Isle of Skye overlooking Loch Dunvegan. Plenty of info about the hotel is at
http://www.the-tables.co.uk/. We also run a computer company up here.
We moved here about 2 and half years ago from Stockton-On-Tees, Cleveland. Iíve been an avid Numan fan since
1978 and we both go to Numan gigs out of the hotel season.

Originally the single was to be
produced as a blue vinyl. However, despite a trial run of nine copies, it was decided that the finished item was too difficult and expensive to produce. The nine copies that were pressed also demonstrated the weird phenomenon of marbling.
